Artist-in-Residence Program

White Buffalo Land Trust created the Artist-in-Residence Program to evolve the consciousness, definition, and representation of living systems. We believe art and artists play an imperative role in shifting cultural narratives and norms over time, and our program intends to inspire and catalyze this process.

Program Overview

Based at the Center for Regenerative Agriculture at Jalama Canyon Ranch, we are offering our resident artists the opportunity to interpret the ecological sites of the ranch as a way to tell the story of the evolution of this place, and this region, through regenerative principles and practices.

The five ecological sites at Jalama Canyon Ranch are indicative of the Central California Coast and other Mediterranean regions worldwide:

  • Oak Woodlands

  • Grassland Pastures

  • Sage Scrub

  • Riparian Areas (Creeks, Streams, and Waterways)

  • Vineyard and Orchards

Each residency will include public engagement to help share this story with the broader community.

Engagements will vary based on the artist and may include workshops, gallery showings, concerts, school presentations, or other public programs.

Artists of the program will be encouraged to explore the ranch, use facilities as working spaces, engage with the WBLT team, and participate in the organization’s ongoing programming.
